Historic Flooding in Hazard, Kentucky- July 31, 2022

7/31/2022

After historic flooding devastated towns across the region, leaving at least 25 dead, more than 300 people who were displaced were temporarily housed at state parks. Kentucky is still in an active search and rescue operation. With little to no warning, families just didn't have time to get themselves or their pets to safety. As you can imagine, the chaotic nature of this natural disaster, means that stories of pets, farm animals, and wildlife are still yet to come to light.

Here are some numbers as of this morning:
  • 404 individuals have been rescued via aircraft by the Kentucky National Guard
  • 224 air rescues were provided by the Tennessee National Guard
  • 36 more air rescues were handled by the West Virginia National Guard.
  • Kentucky State Police has assisted in 624 water rescues thus far
  • Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has assisted in 125 water rescues.
  • A total of 19 individuals and two dogs were rescued via boat by the U.S. National Guard.

More storms expected to hit today and throughout the first week of August so unfortunately, flash flooding will remain a concern through the weekend and possibly longer.

This is why we exist. Unfortunate events like these are why your love and support is crucial, so that we can give these helpless souls their survival story. When we can do that, we create a ripple effect that better prepares animals in the years to come. We cant prevent these sudden and extreme natural disasters, but we can learn and grow from them. Simply put, the success stories are opportunities to save lives today and tomorrow.

If you'd like to support us and our mission, please donate and we will make sure your contribution goes directly to saving the lives of the voiceless. You are apart of not only giving a helpless animal in need a chance today, but many others tomorrow! It takes an army. Thank you, Kim.
