The Maui wildfires in August of 2023 torched through the community of Lahaina, where more than 2,200 structures were damaged or destroyed, including much of the downtown Lahaina Historic District centered on Front Street. 96% of burned structures were residential buildings, with much of the town being reduced to ashes and ruins.
The Maui Humane Society estimates that 3,000 animals have been displaced by the wildfires. As of Aug. 22, the organization reported that over 1,300 lost pet reports were being processed through its platform and hotline.
Today, Maui is still in an active crime scene, with several burned-out sections of the town of Lahaina still closed. However West Maui will finally reopen to tourism on November 1.
Here's the catch. The supplies and the volunteers to help the shelters have run dry as media has turned to other headlines. Because of these continued needs, we are focused on raising money for supplies specific to their needs which include, flea and tick medication for cats and dogs, cat litter, dry food for both cats and dogs, and bene bones. Benebones for example are very important because there are hundreds of families still in motels and the benebones helps keep them preoccupied while in this limbo period.
Donations will help these animals and their families. They are still in need and will be for quite some time. Thank you for your support! We are the Army and the hero for pets!
