Mission
To comfort, care for, and protect animals after catastrophic events.
Domesticated animals, dependent on human caretakers for survival, are often left to perish. Army for Pets leads and provides assistance to animal rescue groups when disaster strikes to take action and create stability* in establishing a safe place in (makeshift) shelters and sanctuaries. Our volunteers help to rehabilitate by providing essential care and feeding of rescued animals, dog walking, cleaning of bowls, and giving lots of attention when these shelters are inundated and overwhelmed. When safe to do so, reunify pets with their families and/or prepare for new homes. Army for Pets is constantly forging new collaborations with rescue organizations and shelters to establish robust Emergency Relief Networks(ERNs) in strategic places around the US.

Founder

Army for Pets is an organization founded by a true lover of animals, Kimberly Cozzens. Kim is a life long advocate for animal rights, a passion which compelled her recent travels to hurricane disaster zones in 2017 and assist the various animal rescue shelters. It was instantly apparent that the resources in place were not nearly enough to provide the comfort, care, and love these traumatized animals desperately needed. While in Houston, she saw first hand there was opportunity to assist and bring relief to stranded animals after the immediate threat passed. How can we alleviate emotional damage from occurring? As you can imagine during the chaos of disaster, there can be a lack of organization, communication with diminishing support as the weeks go on. Our answer is simple. We deploy loving volunteers in disaster zones to provide well-needed aid and support to animals or pets.
Kim graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Social Science with a concentration in Community Change. She believes animals are part of our community, they can bring anyone together, they are family! She envisions Army for Pets to be a forum to attract cohesive and dedicated community participation on a large scale to these locations of need. In Houston, she witnessed hundreds of dogs in crates unable to get a simple daily walk because there were too many dogs and too few volunteers. There is a real need for the additional hands of heroes for these misplaced pets, who sometimes are the last to be protected. Kim witnessed countless veterinarians work up to 16 hours a day to help in “make shift” shelters, with little to no sleep and only a few moments to rest their feet. Army for Pets is a blessing not only to the animals, but to these professionals who appreciate our super heroes/soldiers who take some pressure off of their over burdened shoulders. It is her honor to lead the gentle and compassionate force that calms the storm nationwide.
