AFP 2018 Recap!

Hello AFP friends, family, donors, partners, and Army of Volunteers!

Here is our summary of 2018 calendar year:
Before getting into our volunteer work, I want to highlight two partnerships.
PetSmart and Home Depot in the Bay Area, CA were welcomed as official partners. These were some of our biggest wins of 2018 and an unbelievable accomplishment for a company operating in its 1st year! They were paramount in our efforts throughout the year.
Next is a summary of the four catastrophes around the US that Army for Pets was a part of:
Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii

• Our Treasurer and I volunteered our time for a week in a few remote towns affected by the lava. We brought them supplies from the mainland, purchased and donated some more while on location, and then shipped more after we returned to the mainland. We first volunteered at the main evacuee community center which housed evacuees and their pets. We then volunteered at Rainbow Pets Sanctuary ran alone by a caring woman that housed many displaced pets on the 7-acre lot. All were very grateful to have the extra help and I stay in touch with them to this day. In total, we donated to 3 affected shelters.
  

Lake Shasta and Mendocino Northern California Fires

• We delivered and shipped supplies throughout this disaster. We were also on location two separate occasions. They needed our team to transport supplies from one site to another site as needed. We also helped with farm animals where many were displaced.
  

North and South Carolina Floods/ hurricane

• We shipped supplies to two different local shelters, one in North Carolina and the other South Carolina. Both needed supplies and were very grateful.
  

California Wildfires - Paradise (Campfire) and Southern California (Woosley)

• At Campfire, we had several helping hands at the evacuee center. Our team continuously delivered and transported supplies to multiple shelters in the Chico and Butte County regions. There was a lot of volunteer coordination on this front as well as the impacted areas were spread out.

• We were heavily involved with coordination at Woosley. This included helping larger non-profits organize local volunteers and direct mobile vets to displaced pets that needed additional services. Coordinate volunteers to nearby schools and makeshift shelters to deliver supplies and add additional hands if needed. Animals included in the recovery were burned and on-the-loose horses and chickens which were captured and received medical attention.

Our objective still stands strong. Simply be of service and do not turn a blind eye. "One less animal suffering" should always be in the back of our minds. It starts with one helping hand and one animal receiving love.
