End of Year - Review, Reflection, Resilience

The holidays are here and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support throughout the year. Your generosity has enabled us to create a special Community Volunteer Program, where volunteers join us in spreading love and joy by delivering stuffed animals, treats, and companionship to sheltered pets throughout the holidays. This program has expanded to multiple cities across the US, with plans for further growth in 2024.

We've also been active in lending support to those in immediate need. Regarding the deadliest wildfire in America in over a century, Maui wildfires this past summer burned through the community of Lahaina, resulting in over 17,000 acres of destruction and the loss of over 2,200 buildings including historic landmarks.  96% of burned structures were residential buildings, with much of the town being reduced to ashes and ruins.  The damage caused by the fire has been estimated at nearly $6 billion! Many families and their pets who survived are still living in temporary housing and on the beach.

The Maui Humane Society estimates that 3,000 animals have been displaced by the wildfires. As of Aug. 22, the organization reported that over 1,300 lost pet reports were being processed through its platform and hotline.

Thanks to your support, we donated, provided, and transported much-needed supplies along across the island to help those in need.

Furthermore, we have actively engaged in community events to educate and raise awareness about the lives of pets during disasters, ensuring that families and their beloved animals are better prepared for unforeseen challenges.

Your contributions make a tangible, direct impact on the lives of both pets and families, and we are deeply grateful for your partnership in our mission. As we approach the new year, we humbly ask for your continued support to help us expand our programs and make an even greater difference in the communities we serve.

To contribute to our cause, please find the donate button on our site. Your donation, no matter the size, will help provide love and assistance to those who need it most.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season filled with warmth, love, and puppy kisses.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Kim Cozzens

Maui Fire Update

8/20/2023

Dear Pet Army Supporters,

We wanted to take a moment to provide you with an update on the recent events affecting our animal non-profit and the progress we are making, despite the challenges being faced.

Unfortunately, I fell ill and was unable to visit Maui to help the animals impacted by the devastating fire. As you have probably heard, this fire has caused immense destruction, and our team has been working tirelessly to provide support to shelters in need and collaborate remotely with a dedicated drone team that is searching for animals who fled from the flames.

Thankfully I am set to make a full recovery and want to assure you that our commitment to the welfare of Maui's animals remains unwavering.

In this challenging time, the resilience of Maui's residents has been truly inspiring. Their courage in the face of adversity is a reminder of the strength of community and our shared commitment to protecting and caring for animals in need.

If you would like to support our ongoing efforts, I invite you to visit our website and donate. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference in the lives of the animals affected by this tragedy.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this period. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of animals and the community of Maui.

Warmest regards,
Kim

Historic Flooding in Hazard, Kentucky- July 31, 2022

7/31/2022

After historic flooding devastated towns across the region, leaving at least 25 dead, more than 300 people who were displaced were temporarily housed at state parks. Kentucky is still in an active search and rescue operation. With little to no warning, families just didn't have time to get themselves or their pets to safety. As you can imagine, the chaotic nature of this natural disaster, means that stories of pets, farm animals, and wildlife are still yet to come to light.

Here are some numbers as of this morning:
  • 404 individuals have been rescued via aircraft by the Kentucky National Guard
  • 224 air rescues were provided by the Tennessee National Guard
  • 36 more air rescues were handled by the West Virginia National Guard.
  • Kentucky State Police has assisted in 624 water rescues thus far
  • Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has assisted in 125 water rescues.
  • A total of 19 individuals and two dogs were rescued via boat by the U.S. National Guard.

More storms expected to hit today and throughout the first week of August so unfortunately, flash flooding will remain a concern through the weekend and possibly longer.

This is why we exist. Unfortunate events like these are why your love and support is crucial, so that we can give these helpless souls their survival story. When we can do that, we create a ripple effect that better prepares animals in the years to come. We cant prevent these sudden and extreme natural disasters, but we can learn and grow from them. Simply put, the success stories are opportunities to save lives today and tomorrow.

If you'd like to support us and our mission, please donate and we will make sure your contribution goes directly to saving the lives of the voiceless. You are apart of not only giving a helpless animal in need a chance today, but many others tomorrow! It takes an army. Thank you, Kim.

AFP 2018 Recap!

1/23/2019

Hello AFP friends, family, donors, partners, and Army of Volunteers!

Here is our summary of 2018 calendar year:

Before getting into our volunteer work, I want to highlight two partnerships.
PetSmart and Home Depot in the Bay Area, CA were welcomed as official partners. These were some of our biggest wins of 2018 and an unbelievable accomplishment for a company operating in its 1st year! They were paramount in our efforts throughout the year.
Next is a summary of the four catastrophes around the US that Army for Pets was a part of:
Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii

  • Our Treasurer and I volunteered our time for a week in a few remote towns affected by the lava. We brought them supplies from the mainland, purchased and donated some more while on location, and then shipped more after we returned to the mainland. We first volunteered at the main evacuee community center which housed evacuees and their pets. We then volunteered at Rainbow Pets Sanctuary ran alone by a caring woman that housed many displaced pets on the 7-acre lot. All were very grateful to have the extra help and I stay in touch with them to this day. In total, we donated to 3 affected shelters.

Lake Shasta and Mendocino Northern California Fires

  • We delivered and shipped supplies throughout this disaster. We were also on location two separate occasions. They needed our team to transport supplies from one site to another site as needed. We also helped with farm animals where many were displaced.

North and South Carolina Floods/ hurricane

  • We shipped supplies to two different local shelters, one in North Carolina and the other South Carolina. Both needed supplies and were very grateful.

California Wildfires - Paradise (Campfire) and Southern California (Woosley)

  • At Campfire, we had several helping hands at the evacuee center. Our team continuously delivered and transported supplies to multiple shelters in the Chico and Butte County regions. There was a lot of volunteer coordination on this front as well as the impacted areas were spread out.
  • We were heavily involved with coordination at Woosley. This included helping larger non-profits organize local volunteers and direct mobile vets to displaced pets that needed additional services. Coordinate volunteers to nearby schools and makeshift shelters to deliver supplies and add additional hands if needed. Animals included in the recovery were burned and on-the-loose horses and chickens which were captured and received medical attention.

Our objective still stands strong. Simply be of service and do not turn a blind eye. "One less animal suffering" should always be in the back of our minds. It starts with one helping hand and one animal receiving love.
